AUTUMN/WINTER 2012/13 MEN’S COLLECTION
Born in Brecht, Belgium in 1957 Walter Van Beirendonck studied in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp where graduated in 1982 with Dirk Van Saene, Dries Von Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Marina Yee. After Dirk Bikkembergs' participation in 1982, they created "Antwerp Six"for British Designer Show / London in 1987. Since 1983 he's launching his own collections under his name. His work is inspired from visual arts, literature, nature and ethnic backgrounds. Through his design that has a strong graphic influence, he creates colorful characters for his collections.
"I wanted to show another side of me" he said after his recent show called "Lost Never Sleeps", where he used bowler hats, S&M -like masks and shaman canes. "It was about protection against the world, Tahitian voodoo and fetishism" he explains.
